Risk of throat cancer from oral sex with a partner with HPVI was very pleased when my gyneacologist finally gave me the news that after over a three years of abnormal smears and colonoscopies I had been given the all clear and returned a 'normal' PAP test. However he told me that the abnormality was probably caused by HPV which had now resolved itself.
I haven't had sex witha man in over 18 years but do remember my ex having strange wart like lumps on his penis which we, in our youth and niaivity, assumed to just be spots! Now in my second long term (7 years) relationship with a woman I am terrified to think that I could have given either of these wonderful women mouth or throat cancer, through them having oral sex with me. This risk is never clearly explained and I want to know if the cancer is only caused through penis to mouth oral sex or if it can be caused by vagina to mouth - especially as my partner and I have done this lots of times while I was receiving my abnormal smear reports. None of the gyneacologists I had ever seen before ever suggested that my smear results indicated HPV or that this could be a risk to my partner. If anyone knows if this is a risk or if having the HPV vaccine would help protect my partner (she's only 28) Please let me know.
