Hormones from overseas

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Oct 25, 2001 6:34 pm

I have been taking Estrogen and Androcur now for almost a year from Pharmacycare in New Zealand. Just reacentley they were shut down by the FDA.
There was an article in Transexual Womans Resources on this subject that stated according to the HBIGDA Standards of care now permit physicians to perscribe hormones with out recommendation from a mental health professional for persons who are already taking hormones. I would like to take this occasion to seek medically prescribed, medically supervised hormone therapy. I would appriciate any advice you could give me. Thank You for your help

Lisa, you don't say where you are from, but it is important that the hormones you take be of standard quality. Poor quality or potency may be why the FDA has not allowed them to be prescribed.

You should speak to your healthcare provider. Here at Fenway, we do follow the guidelines from Harry Benjamin, but ALL new transgender clients need to have a mental health evaluation as part of the intake processs. Once the hormones are started, the patient along with the primary care provider and mental health therapist can decide about further mental health services. You should be receiving medically supervised hormone therapy. If you are living in the United States we might be able to help you with local resources.
