Transgender and Intersex Health

Many writers and researchers have noted the ABSENCE of studies of hormonal treatment in the aging transsexual. I want to make the following suggestions. This is all based on the ideas that you are studying this issue yourself and that you are out.

1. If you live near a teaching hospital, find someone there to invite you to come in and educate the medical students. Be prepared to answer questions that seem obvious to you.
2. Educate your own doctors and other caregivers.
3. Invite your endocrinologist to recruit other doctors to study this issue. You might argue that s/he or ze will be treating many more as the baby boom generation ages.
4. Organize around this issue so we can advocate to the medical community at large and at the organizational (AMA) and scientific (NIH) levels.
5. Take good care of yourself.
