Anal Cleansing

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Feb 13, 2002 4:02 pm

Site says enema overuse will disrupt normal bacteria in intestines. Also speaks of pushing bac. from lower to upper intestine. What's the result, and what are initial symptoms?

If not enemas, then what?

What is considered "overuse?"

Is there anything I can do post-enema and anal sex to help restore the balance?

Normally the upper intestine (the small intestine) is sterile--it does not contain bacteria. This is the site where most of the nutrients are absorbed from your food. The lower intestine ( the large intestine) has lots of bacteria to help with the final breakdown of food, but the primary function of this organ is to reabsorb water from the waste and to store it, prior to evacuation. So you can see that if you use a high colonic enema, you might force bacteria into a place where they shouldn't be, and this could cause serious infection. Symptoms might be fever, abdominal pain, nausea, bleeding. However, most doctors feel that occasional enema, and certainly enems like Fleet enemas that only get into the lower portion of the large intestine, are ok. You would not want to use enemas of any kind every day, because that would disrupt the normal evacuation function of the lower intestine. So every day use of an enema would be considered overuse.
After an enema, eating foods like yogurt will restore the normal digestive bacteria to tne intestine naturally. Anal sex itself should not affect the digestive function of the intestine.
